The Corporate State has an Autoimmune Disease: Trump!

An autoimmune disease occurs when the body mistakes its own tissues as foreign and attacks them.

The Corporate State consists of large, powerful business enterprises and obliging governments. Its purpose is to maximize wealth for the rich while restricting and managing blowback from the general public and the environment. It’s obsessed with economic growth, wealth, and political power.

The Corporate State is expert at:

• advancing technology and science to further exploit nature and maximize corporate profits;

• promoting warfare and war profiteering;

• using every conceivable energy source to propel economic growth;

• capturing and controlling the political system, while preserving an aura of “democracy”;

• providing limited and precarious social benefits to placate the public and avoid a populist uprising;

• instilling fear of retribution for acts that may undermine the establishment.

Along comes Donald Trump, at fever pitch, the anti-establishment establishment’s candidate, for four more years in the White House!

A man who has proven exceptionally skilled at arousing and manipulating populism, far more than Bernie Sanders, his ideological opposite.

Trump is too much for the Corporate State. It sees him as a feckless buffoon who undermines the kind of runaway technology it feeds on, with no interest in war as a means to wealth.

Worse still, his energy policies, devoted to greater use of fossil fuels, could ultimately destroy the climate and the Corporate State, if not industrial civilization itself! Or, his reckless economic policies could trigger a worldwide depression, — thereby spawning a real populist uprising!

At Scale Down, we believe that drawing down the global economy in an equitable and carefully planned manner is essential for the preservation and wellbeing of life on Earth. However, the Corporate State is not going to let that happen. Given its relentless, crushing, and accelerating impacts on the living world, we might be tempted to applaud anything that slows the global economy! I’ll address this in a followup essay on Trump’s tariffs.
