It's a moral issue everyone needs to address. Yes, Africa's growth is off the charts but so is the level of consumption in the so-called more "developed" world.
Ecocide? Good question. Unfortunately, the term "ecocide" has been too broadly defined to mean "unlawful or wanton acts committed with knowledge that there is a substantial likelihood of severe and either widespread or long-term damage to the environment." (The Independent Expert Panel for the Legal Definition of Ecocide). Note their emphasis on "environment." That's a far cry from the word "genocide," which, as I've argued, should include the intentional destruction of more than just human life.
