It would be wonderful if people were better educated about this dire situation but the “news”is more geared towards sensationalism and partisan score keeping. Why not add a few links here, Tony? For example to orgs that protect birds: www.abcbirds.org
Not a bad idea. But I wonder how many conservation orgs speak out against the gross immorality of this. Or, promote the need to scale down the human enterprise. Wouldn't it be great if they would link to this commentary?! Obviously, I'm not in an accommodating mood today. Nevertheless, I often link to organizations that do a great job, like the Rewilding Institute and Population Balance.
I think a lot of people are aware in a general sense of the problem, but they don’t know what to do and it seems out of their control. But there are things that people can do like donating to organizations that support wildlife and most importantly, making changes to their lifestyles, such as not letting cats outside, putting up ribbons in front of their windows so the birds don’t fly into them, and reducing their consumption of meat and other animal products. One of the most amazing things I found that’s harmful to the environment is toilet paper. Just think of all the billions of people around the world pooping and the massive amount of toilet paper that is involved; it turns out toilet paper is harmful to the orcas in thePuget Sound. The other thing people aren’t aware of is that flushing cat poop down the toilet spreads harmful toxins throughout the rivers and oceans. Etc etc.
As far as morality, at the moment the individual harmful acts I mentioned are considered moral. The end result is considered immoral though so there is a big disconnect between the causes and effects. 😳

I meant not letting cats free roam outside—they can be outside in more controlled conditions.
